Android 4.2.1 was just announced for the Galaxy Nexus, for those of you who want to get it and also keep root, you can install a stock Android 4.2.1 ROM with root using your ol’ friend ClockworkMod Recovery/ROM Manager.

The new update doesn’t have major changes other than added bluetooth HID support for gamepad/joystick and changes to overall platform. But the changes to platform should mean faster and more stable software than ever.

And the other good news is that Android 4.2.1 is available for all GNex variants including GSM, Verizon, and Sprint.

For those of you coming from Android 4.1.2 or 4.2, data wipe/factory reset should not be necessary. But do make a backup ROM just in case as always.

  17. Phil Cooper says:

    Max –

I am using ROM Manager to create and store back-up files of the different ROM’s I’m using. Today, I created a backup file of this ROM and when I plugged the phone into my computer, Android File Manager isn’t showing the back-up file but does show the CM10 back-up file…When I go into ROM Manager Recovery Mode, the backup file exists – however the old CM10 back-up file doesn’t show..I have couple of questions:
    – Is there a way I can see the 4.2 back-up file in Android File Manager?
    – Since the CM10 back-up file isn’t showing in Recovery Mode, how would I go about flashing the old back-up file if I wanted to restore it?
    – Do you anticipate CM or AOKP coming out with a 4.2 ROM soon?

    Thanks as always!

I’m at 4.2 GSM if I do not need to do a data wipe or factory reset , does this mean all my apps, data and contact information will remain in tact?

Since I updated to the sprint version of 4.2.1 I’ve been experiencing problems with my GPS and Google maps. The camera pictures seem to be much lower quality/focused.
Also noticed it’s a lot more bugs than the stock 4.1.1
I hope updates come down the line that make it more stable.

My LTE is having trouble connecting to the network and when in lte mode will not default to 3g so I have to manually go an turn it to 3g mode to get network. I went back to my 4.2 rom and the lte was working fine. Seams that when I first got the phone (slightly used) It was having lte issues, but after a couple of days it fixed itself. Any suggestions?

  28. Mike says:

I really do wish there were a guide with simple steps for people who are not as aware of what they’re supposed to be doing. I’m on 4.1.1 and am struggling to figure out what to do.
    Need “for dummies version”. :/
