Although Google has announced Galaxy Nexus will not be updated officially to Android 4.4 KitKat that was released last week, thankfully we have great developers who have already ported Android 4.4 to Galaxy Nexus.

Currently available for GSM or Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Android 4.4 KitKat ROM brings lots of new features, here’s Top 10 features you can expect from KitKat:

Basically, you will benefit from Android 4.4 KitKat as it has been designed to run faster/smoother on older device such as the Galaxy Nexus on top of the new features like “OK Google”, SMS/MMS in Hangouts app, QuickOffice, and lots more.

The only bug currently is with rotation graphics a bit dithered but even with these earlier beta versions of Android 4.4, you should have no problem testing out all the new features while using as a daily driver.

Definitely, you can get it now so try it over the week(end) and do let me know what you think of the latest Android 4.4 KitKat!

    • Axel Lunddahl says:

Easy to download and flash with NexusRootToolkit and it looks really nice on my Nexus (JOP40D.i9250). But my google apps couldn’t be reinstalled and the screen is very unstable during web browsing, so I have restored my 4.2.1
Hope to see a bug fixed version

  2. Phil says:

I flashed it and everything went perfectly…. but when I was using it I noticed that my 3G doesn’t work. My carrier is TIM from Brazil (850/2100MHz). What’s wrong? Do I have to re-flash the ROM?

    Thanks, Daniel.

*Android 4.4 KitKat builds cannot be flashed in TWRP – the LATEST version of CWM recovery must be used! (6.0.4.3)

  12. Ryan Shaw says:

Flashed this and it worked fine.

Its a bit buggy though. The default browser is patchy with black squares. Chrome works fine. The problem is that many apps use the browser component so they are having problems as well. Screen rotate also is patchy. Maybe they are related.

This thread on xda also has a ROM and mentions the same bug.

Wondering if a fix will be posted.

    Ryan.

    • Ryan Shaw says:

my other bug I’m experiencing is reboots. A few throughout the day. Each time my battery drops about 15%. Maybe its about the battery misreading.

  26. Pete says:

Nice, thanks for the 4.4 version – GSM Nexus version – Took a bit to get good drivers working on Win 8 to connect to the phone. Having the video issues with the browsers; chunks of the screen blacking out, as is mentioned in previous posts.
I appreciate all the work people have put into this – THANKS :)

  27. Kevin says:

Can anyone tell me if KitKat is too buggy for our GNexus’ ? The comments (above) seem to suggest that it’s anything but a smooth OS for our older Galaxy phones. I don’t understand the reason that Google is sticking to its 18 month cut-off period. These phones have adequate RAM and would benefit greatly from the engineering changes made with KitKat. Add your name to Max Duckwitz’s petition at change.org and maybe, just maybe, Mssrs. Brin & Page will take pity on us and relent. Here’s the link to the petition: http://chn.ge/HO51af
    Cheers!

  28. Soren says:

Thank you for your efforts. Very exiting.

I confirm the browser issues and also sometimes the phone reboots when opening icon folders on the home screen.

  29. alex says:

Video dithering issues when closing the screen (minor/aesthetic)

  33. Boogieman says:

I’m getting reboots and a good amount of display redraw issues. Just before the reboot, the unit freezes. As for the redraw issue, it is very easy to replicate using Instagram.

  34. Robert says:

This version works, even the browser works without all the graphic glitches.

Will it come a new version with some bug fixes?

  39. Rodrigo Sucesso says:

3G does not work for me (actually, no mobile data at all, except wifi). I live in Brazil (VIVO operator).

Whenever considering tents it’s very clear that
you get a great deal of choices to select from, matter of fact it’s an overpowering variety of
choices for most. Because I’ve been securing my tents I’ve not
experienced an individual flow or trickle in months and days of backpacking and hiking
    outings.
