Android 4.2.1 was just announced for the Galaxy Nexus, for those of you who want to get it and also keep root, you can install a stock Android 4.2.1 ROM with root using your ol’ friend ClockworkMod Recovery/ROM Manager.

The new update doesn’t have major changes other than added bluetooth HID support for gamepad/joystick and changes to overall platform. But the changes to platform should mean faster and more stable software than ever.

And the other good news is that Android 4.2.1 is available for all GNex variants including GSM, Verizon, and Sprint.

People always ask me, “Max, do I need to unroot to take OTA?” Well, the answer is yes and no.

If you are rooted, there’s usually rooted OTA custom ROMs you can flash in ClockworkMod Recovery (usually within 24 hours) of the update, which allows you to easily update to the OTA and keep root, settings, and apps.

How to Install/Unroot Galaxy Nexus GSM to Android 4.0.4 OTA! [IMM76I]

For those of you who want to install the latest Android 4.0.4 OTA IMM76I update from Google, the latest stock ROM, here’s how to do it.  Also, this is an unroot method back to stock.  It will erase all your personal settings and apps so, be sure to make a backup of your ROM, backup your apps using Titanium backup app, and also make sure to backup SMS text messages (if needed) using SMS Text Backup app.
